The first ever Belgium in Hong Kong Week will be held in the city from 12 - 19 November 2016 featuring Belgian art, music, photography, comics and gourmet cuisine.
The programme of events includes a homage by Filip Jordens to the famous singer and songwriter Jacques Brel at Ping Pong Gintoneria bar in Sai Ying Pun (13/11) and at Kee Club (14/11); an exhibition of contemporary Belgian artists at ArtOne in Wanchai; gala dinners at The KEE Club; a photography exhibition entitled "Hong Kong and Islands" by Jean-Pierre Ruelle at Lightstage Gallery on Hollywood Road; a Belgian Comics exhibition, cocktails and talk; and a business seminar focusing on trade between Belgium and China, with particular reference to the creative industries.
The initiative has been welcomed by Belgian Consul General in Hong Kong Michèle Deneffe: "It is a great pleasure for me to welcome the best of Belgium to Hong Kong: to share our cuisine with the people of Hong Kong for whom good food is so important; to bring the work of Belgian artists some of whom may live in New York but remain innately Belgian; to bring an exhibition of Comics which I feel sure will appeal to the wider Hong Kong audience.
"The programme is full and varied, the business aspect is well covered too, our aim being to represent the country that is Belgium, in the heart of Europe. I am proud to support this true Spirit of Belgium."
Belgium week in Hong Kong is organised by Sheila Arora, Co-Creator and Project Director; Marc David Nathan, KEE Club Director / Partner; Michèle Deneffe , Consul General of Belgium in Hong Kong; Ms Stéphanie Laurent Josi, Project Manager; and Emilie Rolin Jacquemyns, Art Project Curator.
